There are several opportunities this October in Arizona and across the country to understand the benefits and impact of the National Health Service Corps. The service corps works to recruit and retain health care providers to work in underserved communities. The service corps increases access to care by supporting primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified nurse-midwives, dentists, dental hygienists, and mental health professionals working in federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas through loan repayment assistance.
The Arizona Alliance of Community Health Centers is hosting a series of lunch and learn webinars throughout the month of October. Each webinar session will take place from noon to 1 p.m. using Go To Meeting. The schedule and topics for the lunch and learn series is as follows:

- Thursday, October 20: Dental Preceptor Training presented by Dr. Betz of Mariposa Community Health Center
- Tuesday, October 25: Retention through Continuing Education, Greater Valley Area Health Education Center
- Thursday, October 27: Shortage Designations 101
The National Health Service Corps provides funding support to the Arizona Loan Repayment Program. The program is run by ADHS and provides incentives to primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified nurse-midwives, dentists, psychiatrists, geriatrics, pharmacists, and mental health professionals if they commit to work in Arizona Medically Underserved Areas.
