Our Bureau of EMS and Trauma System recently launched the Arizona Treat and Refer Recognition Program by publishing the manual and application on its website. This innovative program is the result of several months of collaboration between ADHS, the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), and EMS stakeholders.
Treat and Refer programs are an important change for Arizona . EMS providers frequently encounter patients who need social or health services offered in their community, but do not necessarily need transport to an emergency department.
Organizations that seek Treat and Refer recognition must implement a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation program under the direction of their medical director and chief executive.
