Did you know there are more than 80 farmer’s markets in Arizona? We are celebrating National Farmers Market Week from August 6-12, 2017. Farmers markets support healthy communities by increasing access to nutritious food, stimulating local economies, and preserving farmland and rural livelihoods.

The Arizona Nutrition Network has launched a new interactive map to make it easy to find a farmer’s market near your home. You can personalize your search by season, day of week, and time of day. ADHS programs work together to strengthen farmers markets with the goal of increasing food security, decreasing obesity and reducing chronic disease. The Arizona WIC Program and the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program provide vouchers for participants to shop at farmers’ markets.

Many markets also accept SNAP benefits (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). Over half of SNAP-authorized markets in Arizona also operate a SNAP matching program, where purchases are matched dollar for dollar up to $20 at participating locations. Learn more at Double Up Food Bucks AZ, or in the Tucson area, visit Heirloom Farmers Markets or Community Food Bank of Southern AZ.
