The Bureau of Tobacco and Chronic Disease sponsored their 2010 Youth Première Event to mobilize Arizona youth in the battle against tobacco. This event marked the first time youth from around the State were brought together to learn about establishing a comprehensive and sustainable statewide youth coalition on issues related to tobacco control and addiction. More than 240 youth attended from every corner of the State on the campus of Northern Arizona University for two days in June to learn how to be leaders in their communities and to learn how they could be involved in a statewide initiative to address issues related to tobacco control within their communities. The success of the Première Event was largely dependent on the youth’s participation and enthusiasm as they were charged with carrying forth the message of tobacco prevention to their peers.
